I went shopping yesterday, and imagine my excitement to find a really nice sweatshirt on the clearance rack at Macy's. Excitement that quickly faded when I put the shirt on this morning and found a receipt in the pocket...from a restaurant I've never been to.
That's right, folks, someone bought this shirt, wore it, and returned it. And now it's mine. I don't know how to feel right now, but I'm a little wierded out.

I suppose I might feel differently if I thought something was "new"--particularly if I paid close to full price on it. But generally that's what I love about thrifting: imagining the person who would've bought the thing the first time around, and how they came to leave a particular post-it note or receipt in a pocket or purse.
