Current Stats

As of this morning, I was 202.4 lbs. I figure I'll be back around 210 by the end of winter, and my in-season weight will be right around 205.

My max deadlift came last week when I pulled 445# off the the floor.

Franz and I PR'd on single-leg presses last night, repping 340x5.

Squatting just started in earnest a couple weeks ago, so I'm only up to 335x5, but the weights will go up quickly.

Sadly, it seems I'm getting too big for my britches. Literally. I need to buy new pants. Again. (sigh)

I held the school record in dead lift until it was broken by 75lbs 4 min later my senior year of high school. It was 585 done once, I used one of those diamond shaped bars where you stand inside of it. Then Pat C had to go and lift 680. He also held the clean and snatch records tho, which he broke both twice before the end of the year. I miss weightlifting.

Now this is why I am so glad you have your blog back up.

One of the guys I train in Chicago has a son who weights 148lb and deadlifts 550lb. Wants to start sprint cycling.

But everyone asks me how much Gord Singleton lifts and my reply is "lot less than you" quickly followed by "but those World Champ stripes are for life".

Main thing after seeing Kerrie Meares in real life and white cycling shorts the most important thing in cycling is having a massive sprinter butt!

Power = Work/Time (Work = Force x Distance) Do you guys do power lifts and plyometrics?

Fergie...you should tell that kid to give up on cycling for a few years and go set some world records in powerlifting! Also, any pictures of Kerrie in white shorts can be e-mailed to me :-)

Anonymous...We do plenty of plyos and power lifts, but the weights and reps are harder to quantify so they generally go unmentioned.

If the 148 pound kid also has a 30 inch plus vertical. He really has something. If his squatt is similar to his dead he would have a squatt to weight ratio of 3.71 x his body weight. This is top world class lift. For reference with a power suit and wraps I would have a max squatt lift in the 500 pound range at 180 pounds giving me a 2.77 x body weight. He is 35% stronger than me. If he is doing this lift legally he will dominate the power lifting scene nationally.

Very basic rule of thumb for world class sprinters is 27" plus verticle jump and a max squat of 2.75 to 3 times body weight. There are many guys that fit the basic requirements. The world class guys are just better able to transfer the force to the pedals.
