Actually, that shows the riders exactly how they crossed the line, since the finish camera takes a series of very narrow photos right at the finish line. They're later assembled in chronological order from right to left to create a more meaningful image.
(and I saw a regular-style pic of ng's finish anyway, so that's how I know that)
